Kamala Harris’ campaign traveled to Atlanta on July 30. The presidential candidate has already been endorsed by dozens of notable celebrities. She took full advantage of these endorsements during the rally.
She not only called upon Megan Thee Stallion to perform during the event, but she had Atlanta native Quavo speak on her behalf. The Migos superstar praised Kamala Harris’ policies, especially with regards to gun control. Harris returned the favor by using an iconic Migos song to diss her opponent.
Harris fired up the Atlanta audience by criticizing Republican nominee Donald Trump. When explaining how Trump has failed the American people, the Democratic nominee used a phrase from Migos’ 2018 hit “Walk It Talk It”. “As my friend Quavo would say,” Harris remarked. “He does not walk it like he talks it.” The remark elicits yells of support from the audience and perfectly sets up Quavo’s statement. The rapper’s attendance was not disclosed before to the protest. Given the rapper’s imprint on Atlanta society, the co-sign makes perfect sense.

Quavo’s message was brief but poignant, emphasizing the need of gun regulation in saving lives. “You can’t understand the struggle of gun violence if you not in the field or in the heart of it,” according to the artist. “One thing I learned from working with Vice President Harris is she always stand on business.” Quavo also referenced a previous discussion he had with Harris about gun regulation. “It’s only right in the birthplace of the culture is also the same place to launch the first African-American woman to run for president,” according to him.
Quavo’s commitment to gun control stems from a sense of loss. Takeoff, the rapper’s nephew, was shot and died on November 1, 2022. Both guys came to prominence as members of Migos, and Quavo said that Takeoff’s death prompted him to take a stand. “I feel like your calling comes at the least expected times,” he told the Associated Press. “I must take action to ensure that it does not happen to the general public, particularly in our society.
The partnership between Quavo and Harris has been beneficial to both parties. The artist lends legitimacy to Harris among Atlanta voters, while the politician supports a topic that Quavo is passionately enthusiastic about. In June, Harris attended Quavo’s first Rocket Foundation Summit.
