Logan Paul announced on SmackDown that his Prime energy drink’s logo would grace the mat for WWE PLEs from WrestleMania 40 onwards.
Naturally, the live audience at Friday’s event booed the announcement, but it’s more than just one LP heel advertising. Previously, former WWE CEO Vince McMahon was adamant about not covering his canvas with advertising or commercial branding.
McMahon lieutenant Bruce Prichard was extremely honest about it on his ‘Something To Wrestle With’ podcast throughout the years, saying Vince didn’t like what WCW did in the 1990s, such as covering the mat with logos like Snickers. He wants the WWF/WWE rings to have a cleaner appearance overall.
Triple H has altered its policy.
Paul’s Prime brand may spark a snowball effect for the promotion, with various companies signing on to sponsor the canvas, turnbuckles, ring pillars, and more. WWE has already shown some logos on the LED boards that attach to the ring aprons, so perhaps this was the next logical move.
However, it does symbolize Triple H’s new ideology. It would also be interesting to know how much input TKO had overall on this decision.
